How trash service works in Dublin
Dublin’s green carts now hold food scraps as well as yard waste, and from west Dublin to Dublin Ranch, summer afternoons get hot. That is why a cart smells by midweek. We clean all three AVI carts.
- Who collects: Amador Valley Industries (AVI), Dublin’s franchised hauler since 2005. Waste Connections bought AVI in 2024, and it still operates as AVI.
- Your carts: gray lid for garbage, blue for recycling, and green for compost.
- Food scraps: go in the green cart along with food-soiled paper and yard trimmings, as required by California’s SB 1383. No plastic bags, including compostable ones.
- Collection day: weekly, Monday through Friday, set by your address. AVI can confirm it.
- Setting out: carts go in the street at the curb the night before pickup, at least three feet apart.
- Putting carts away: city code requires carts to be out of view from the street by the day after collection, unless they are kept in a side yard.
- Holidays: AVI observes Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. When one falls on your pickup day, service runs a day late for the rest of that week, through Saturday.
- Extra garbage: call AVI at least 24 hours before your service day so the driver knows.
- Large items: three free collections a year, up to seven cubic yards, with small items bagged or boxed.

A trash bin is a warm, wet, well-fed place for germs to grow.
