1. Look inside before you roll them back

A few sheets of newspaper or a layer of yard trimmings on the bottom keeps food scraps off the cart floor. Follow the liner instructions for your service address; Danville, San Ramon and Dublin do not necessarily accept the same bags.

Park carts out of direct afternoon sun when you can. A cooler cart smells less and draws fewer flies.
